If you go back to your post about three posts ago in this discussion thread, you said:

If one has their broker remove a position from their portfolio as worthless so a full tax deduction can be taken, I don't believe that it any longer counts as even a $0.000001 trade.

To avoid any potential tax issues with the IRS, I suspect that the broker just returns the shares to the issuing corporation's transfer agent who then removes those shares from the O/S. In other words, those shares probably get erased so they cannot be sold again by anyone.
